For nearly 3 decades, I have created one-of-a-kind pieces of sculpture, furniture and doors enhancing my client’s homes and outdoor spaces. My chosen medium is wood, for many reasons. It is an organic, natural material that infuses my work with its warmth and unique spirit. I also find that the process of working with wood provides a satisfying, healing relief from the stresses and chaos of life in our modern world. As an art medium, the natural beauty of wood offers an antidote to the sterile effects of the synthetic, man-made environment that surrounds us. With my favorite tool, the bandsaw, I am able to literally turn my sculptures inside out exposing the true middle of the tree, usually the most hidden and protected. Finding the soft, sensual nature inside a rough material is an exciting challenge. Putting my saw blades into giant wood beams, sculpting rough edges into beckoning twists and cubes is all about listening/trusting that the soul of the wood will reveal itself. My art is about opening doors to new possibilities of transforming wood/transforming an environment, a personal world that honors how we respect life and nature and the gifts that we are here to take care of.
